AUTOBIANCHI 500 giardiniera | 1977
Price € 9.000
Fiat launched its new Fiat 500 in Turin on the 4th of July in 1957. The ingenious design from Dante Giacosa made it a small, but also very practical car. Thanks to a 500 cc engine mounted in the back, it still offered enough space to the Italian famiglia. The car became a huge success and was the very first car of many people. It was also the very first mass-production car. It stayed in production until 1975. Its huge production volume, doesn’t make the Fiat 500 an exclusive car , but … there’s a few rare executions.
The 500 Jolly for instance: an open beach derivative that whas hugely appreciated by the rich and the famous along the mediterranean beaches in the sixties. Or the Gardiniera.
The Fiat 500 Giardiniera was introduced in 1960 as a practical break-style alternative to the Fiat 500. To free up space, the two-cilinder engine f the car was rotated 90°, and thanks to a chassis that is 21 cm longer, the load space is an impressive 3 metres. Not bad for such a compact car. A large boot door and rear seats that can be folded down, make it even more practical. Its fabric hood that allows you to enjoy the sunshine while ddriving, make it simply irresistible.
The Fiat 500 Giardiniera kept its original specifications right through to the end, and has suicide doors allowing ladies to enter the car elegantly. And a real eyecatcher. Today, this car is quite rare, especially in Belgium. Peolple will not only look at it, but will talk about it.
The car on offer here, carries an Autobianchi logo. This brand had been purchased by Fiat, and built the Fiat 500 up to 1977. This car has been refurbished by its previous owner and is in almost perfect condition. It has a few minor cracks in the paint. The engine has been revised completely and has been given an electronical ignition. The original 500 cc block has been adapted to a 650 cc allowing it to keep up with modern trafic.
